Fundamental AV academic research is currently inhibited by a lack of data and access to infrastructure, tools, and data-generating vehicle fleets for it to meaningfully address the problems that matter to industry. Yet, many challenges remain in the AV space that academia is better equipped to address (fundamental research with long lead times).

Mission statement: Develop advanced perception and naturalistic decision-making algorithms that enable vehicles to perceive and navigate autonomously in diverse, open-world, urban conditions.

We are actively looking for new students coming from a wide range of backgrounds to join our center. Prospective Ph.D students with an interest in computer vision should apply to Robotics Institute, Machine Learning Department, or Computer Science Department. We also have several post-doctoral and research staff positions. Please Contact Us if you are interested.
